APMCM Mathematical Modeling Competition
Overview
APMCM (Asia and Pacific Mathematical Contest in Modeling) is an international mathematical modeling competition for university students in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Organizer: APMCM Organizing Committee
- Participants: Undergraduate and graduate students in the Asia-Pacific region
- Format: Mathematical modeling paper competition
2024 14th Edition: Exploring Frontiers in Quantum-Accelerated AI
Theme Introduction
The team selected Problem D: Exploring Frontiers in Quantum-Accelerated AI. The problem focused on the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, requiring participants to transform classical machine learning problems into QUBO (Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization) models and solve them using the simulated annealing algorithm provided by the SDK.
Research Content
The team addressed three sub-problems:
- Cloud Computing Resource Demand Prediction — Based on 9 months of historical data, an AR (Autoregressive) time series model was built to predict October demand, which was then transformed into a QUBO model for solving;
- Iris Dataset Classification — The optimization problem of the SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier was mapped into QUBO form to achieve quantum-accelerated classification;
- MNIST Handwritten Digit Recognition — A CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) model was constructed, with an attempt to transform its training process into a QUBO optimization problem.
